Life thoughts on December 3rd 2017
I have around 30 minutes in front of me. So I'll take them. I feel inspired. So I'll take it.
There is no structure to this blog post. I don't even know what I'm going to write about.
I guess I'll just let my thoughts go off. Get them out of my head.
I won't take the time to correct my grammar. I don't care.
There will be no structure.
So here we go.
I still got a lot to take care of, but I ended 2017 in a better way that I went through it. Ironically, I ended it in a better way that I even started it. I feel much smarter, in control and wiser than I was when I started it.
Even if you go through some shit, sometimes it's good to unzoom and realize the progress you've made. You might not see it every day, but you'll see it one day. Trust me.
That leads me to my next point.
Your struggles will teach you the most
When we win - or at least the very first time we do - we become kind of a victim or our own success. We become naive. We become ungrateful. We take it for granted. We don't take enough time to learn from these victories.
When we go through some stuff though, we have the obligation to get our stuff together and grow from it.
We can't do otherwise.
Our struggles will teach us the most. Let's embrace these struggles. That's how we become stronger.
But what if we learn as much from our victories?
Money in the bank is money lost
It's cool to see numbers in your bank account. But you won't create wealth, and you won't become who you want to be stacking money in a high-interest tangerine account.
You're money has to be working for you. You have to spend it to make it.
Focus on using your money to become who you want to become.
Invest it, play with it, be smart with it, but use it!!!!
That's how you become who you want to become.
The rules are just guidelines
No matter how many books you read. No matter how many degrees you have. What you learn from it will only be guidelines.
If you want to make it in this world you have to do something new. You have to do things differently. You have to think differently.
And when you do these different things, the old rules do not apply.
Last weekend, I was a judging a college marketing competition. I didn't even go to college. One student went to me and said: why are you here? Why are you the one judging us?
I didn't even know what answering. I'm kind of socially awkward in these moments. And I was not trying to answer him anyway. But looking back at it, I understood that the fact that I didn't really learn from the rules pushed me to learn from doing. And to create my own rules. And to only base my learning on what works and what does not.
Here's what I mean by that: go to school, read these books, sit down around a coffee with a mentor. But understand one thing. Please understand this: these moments of learning are just a way to sharpen your intuition. The real lessons and the real way to go forward is to do stuff.
Take marketing for example. There are a lot of rules to it. But at the end of the day, if you build fans around your products -- fans that are going to buy, and talk every day about you and your products -- you've won. No matter the rules or strategies you used to get there.
It's simpler than we think. We just tend to make it complicated.
We fantasize over complexity.
Nobody can't take away from you what nobody can't take away from you
Seems obvious. But let that shit sink in.
People can take away your house. Banks can freeze your bank accounts. Thieves can take away your TV. But nobody can take away your talents. Nobody can take away your creativity.
And that's when you are powerful. When nobody can't take away shit from you.
The moment you start investing in your craft -- that's when you become truly powerful. Because nobody can take it away from you.
Never let anyone tell you how to live your life
Everybody will try to decide for you. The only thing is that when you do good, they'll tell you that you owe them. If you do bad, they'll run away.
Never let anyone tell you how to live your life: it's your life.
If you feel that it's right, do it. If it makes you happy, do it. You're the only one who's gonna live with your decisions. So act like it.
Seeking people's approval is the only way to fail and to be unhappy. Your heart already knows.
Stop overthinking it
I used to overthink everything. It didn't help.
Sometimes the best thing to do is to act and to adjust later.
I used to be so emotionally or attached to my business and everything that I was paralyzed. But then I realized everything is just an extension of myself.
I am not my business. I am not my relationships. I am nothing. I am just me.
Everything else is just an extension of me that doesn't really matter at the end of the day.
So might not overthink it and ruin my happiness.
If you cannot monetize your stuff, it's not worth doing
Everything you do in business should have a purpose of creating value or having monetization one day. Sometimes we complicate it, again, but it all goes down to monetization.
If you can't monetize something, in any way it is, you should not be doing it.
For example content marketing. Never forget the word marketing in it. If you're doing content, it means that it has to bring you something. Whether it is money or reach, or reach you can turn into money later.
Monetization is everything.
The 30 minutes are over
Last thing: the 30 minutes I had to write are over.
Still in the same pattern than the "not overthink it principle": when it's time to hit publish, it's time to hit publish,
It's better to publish something imperfect than to not publish something perfect.
Never wait. There are no right timing. Life is happening now.
Happy Holidays y'all !
